Naturgy breaks ground on 100 MWp of solar in Spain

    December 2, 2021 - SeeNews Renewables

December 2 (Renewables Now) - Spanish power and gas utility Naturgy Energy Group SA (BME:NTGY) announced on Wednesday that it has commenced construction of two 50-MWp solar PV farms in Andalusia, southern Spain.

The projects, known as Tabernas I and II, will require an investment of more than EUR 52 million (USD 58.8m).

Once up and running, the solar facilities should be able to generate over 228 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 65,400 homes and offset 145,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

The two Tabernas plants will be Naturgy's first solar farms in Andalusia, and will boost the company's renewables portfolio in the region to 131 MW.

At present, the Spanish utility has three operational wind parks in Andalusia -- Los Llanos (33.4 MW), El Tesorillo (26 MW) and Rabia (21.7 MW).
