The state-owned UkrGasVydobuvannya natural gas production company has begun test pilot operation of the Bee-UGV software suite, which was designed specifically for collecting data from energy metering stations (natural gas, liquid hydrocarbons, and electricity) and calculating the volume of natural gas in energy units (kWh).
UkrGasVydobuvannya announced this in a statement, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to the statement, natural gas volumes are measured in energy units almost all over the world but in cubic meters in Ukraine. However, the measurement of natural gas volumes in cubic meters does not take the calorific value of gas into account.
"The transition to energy units will become mandatory on May 1, 2022,” the statement said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the parliament authorized the Cabinet of Ministers to switch from the measurement of gas volumes in cubic meters to energy units in November.
UkrGasVydobuvannya’s net profit reduced by UAH 14.1 billion or 3.8-fold to UAH 4.95 billion in 2020, compared with 2019.
UkrGasVydobuvannya is the largest natural gas producer in Ukraine. A Cabinet of Ministers resolution requires the company to sell all the gas it produces to the Naftogaz of Ukraine national energy company for meeting the needs of households.
The Naftogaz of Ukraine national energy company owns 100% of the shares in UkrGasVydobuvannya.
