Natural gas to Kaliningrad region to be supplied via Latvia until early June

May 24, 2022 - LETA Latvian News Agency

RIGA, May 23 (LETA) - During the reconstruction of the Minsk-Vilnius gas pipeline, natural gas to Russia's Kaliningrad exclave will be supplied via Latvian territory until June 8, according to information released by Latvian natural gas transmission and storage operator Conexus Baltic Grid (Conexus).

The reconstruction and repair works on the Minsk-Vilnius pipeline are affecting the operation of the Kotlovka entry-exit point, which is why gas supplies are organized from the gas metering station Izborsk via Latvia and Lithuania to the gas metering station Shakiai.

ccording to information on Conexus' website, Latvia approved 365 gigawatt hours (GWh) of natural gas nominations from Russia via the Izborsk connection from May 16 to 22. A week before, from May 9 to 15, Latvia received no natural gas from Russia.

s reported, Conexus reported EUR 56.439 million in turnover for 2021, an increase of 4.8 percent against the year before, while the company's profit grew 0.8 percent to EUR 13.217 million, according to the information published by the company.

Conexus Baltic Grid is a unified natural gas transmission and storage system operator in Latvia. The company manages the Incukalns underground gas storage, which is an important strategic object for the Nordic-Baltic region and one of the most modern natural gas storage facilities in Europe. Its 1,188 km natural gas transmission network connects the Latvian natural gas market with Lithuania, Estonia and Russia.

Conexus belongs to Augstsprieguma Tikls (68.46 percent) and MM Capital Infrastructure Fund managed by Japan's Marubeni (29.06 percent).
