Riga, 29 July: In a statement to the Nasdaq Riga Stock Exchange today, joint-stock gas supply company Latvijas Gaze claims that it is purchasing natural gas from other suppliers and paying in the euro currency as required under the regulatory framework effective in Latvia.
''There are no natural gas supplies currently taking place from Russian company Gazprom,'' Latvijas Gaze said in the statement.
The company also claims that it is not the only natural gas trader to purchase and receive natural gas in the Baltic region from Russia.
''Under the amendments to the Energy Law in force since 28.07.2022, natural gas supplies from Russia shall be prohibited as of 01.01.2023. Up until that date, natural gas supplies from Russia are allowed,'' the company stated.
[Latvian Television reported earlier that Latvijas Gaze had resumed buying gas from Russia. For more, please see Latvian energy firm resumes buying gas from Russia and Latvia security body to check purchases of Russian gas.]
