Arequipa: natural gas pipeline rupture in Yanahuara generated alert among neighbors

    September 19, 2022 - CE Noticias Financieras

The rupture of a natural gas main on Abelardo Quiñones Avenue in Yanahuara (Arequipa) alerted neighbors in the area this morning. Fortunately, the incident was controlled without further damage. According to Petroperú (operator of the gas network), the rupture was caused by personnel of the Municipality of Yanahuara, which is carrying out a paving work in the area.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Trinidad Morán and Pampita Zeballos streets. Petroperú indicated that the incident occurred at 9:00 a.m. due to a backhoe that damaged the natural gas structure and thus caused a leak. A Petroperu crew was sent and controlled the situation at around 10:00 a.m.

The company also stated that before the start of the paving work, the Municipality of Yanahuara was given the plans with the location of the gas networks.

      Residents deny the municipality

The Municipality of Yanahuara issued a statement on its social networks denying that the natural gas leak had occurred. However, in the same publication, neighbors denied the municipality. "Lousy organization and a mockery to all of us, who had to evacuate," replied one user.
