Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, has entered into a 20-year agreement with ConocoPhillips to supply 5 million tonnes per year of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Phase 1 of the proposed Port Arthur LNG project in Jefferson County, Texas. This was reported by the press service of the company.
"The parties also entered into an equity sale and purchase agreement under which ConocoPhillips will acquire a 30% equity interest in Phase 1 of Port Arthur LNG and a natural gas supply management agreement under which ConocoPhillips will manage the supply of source gas for Phase 1 of the proposed liquefaction plant.
The first phase of the Port Arthur LNG project in the United States involves the construction of two gas liquefaction production lines, as well as other infrastructure that will allow the export of 13.5 million tons of LNG per year. Port Arthur LNG could become one of the largest LNG export facilities in North America, as its capacity could potentially be increased to eight production lines, or 45 Mtpa.
The Sempra and ConocoPhillips collaboration also covers the second phase of the ECA LNG export project in Mexico, which is in the early stages of development, while the first is under construction.
