The Managing Director Azura Power, Edu Okeke has said, out of a total of 25,000 megawatts of electricity projected by the Federal Government, Azura has capacity to generate 3,500 Mega Watts (MW) representing 20 percent of the entire generation.
Speaking at the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria (PCAN) workshop in Abuja, he said Azura has completed 461MW Edo Independent Power Plant IPP, open cycle gas turbine power station, which is a phase of 1,500 megawatts power plant facility near Benin City Nigeria.
'Azura long term vision is to engage in power generation projects that will add over 3, 500 megawatts of power equal to approximately 20 percent of Nigeria's projected capacity,' he said.
According to him, the project was completed in 28 months ahead of schedule, and since commissioning it has provided more than 8 percent of the power sent to the National Grid.
To further strengthen its performance, Azura power was named 2022 best generation company Thermal, by the Power Sector Performance Award in Abuja.
Presenting the award, the Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company NDPHC, Chiedu Ugbe described Azura as a leading power generating company in Nigeria.
The Power Sector Award was a ministerial performance evaluation working group set up to track sectorial input in generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.
