ALMATY. Jan 25 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - National Company KazMunayGas JSC (KMG) and Italy's oil and gas company Eni S.p.A (ENI) has agreed to build a hybrid power plant in the Mangistau region, KMG said in a press release on Wednesday.
KazMunayGas CEO Magzum Mirzagaliyev held a meeting with ENI's delegation led by ENI Upstream Director Luca Vignati.
KMG and ENI reached agreement to jointly implement a project for construction of a 120 MW hybrid power plant in the Mangistau region. The power plant will generate electricity from renewable energy sources (wind and solar) and gas, according to the press release.
The electricity that will be produced by this plant will be supplied to Ozenmunaigas and Kazakh Gas Processing Plant, which will ensure reliable power supply to these facilities and prevent their accidental shutdowns due to power outage incidents.
The project will be carried out in 2023-2025. The solar farm will be commissioned in 2024, and the wind farm and the gas-fired equipment in 2025
The cost of the project is about $300 million.
This project is in pursuance of the memorandum of cooperation in power generation signed by KMG and ENI in July 2021.
National Company KazMunayGas JSC is the national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. The company represents the state interests in the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan.
