Chadian oil and gas company PetroChad Mangara (PCM) announced the start-up of natural gas-fired power generation at the Moundou power plant in southern Chad, pro-government website Alwihda has reported.
"PCM is now successfully producing electricity from natural gas for Chad's second largest city, which previously had limited electricity production and relied on diesel generators," the website said.
"This is a direct result of increased production from the Badila and Mangara fields, which have reached their combined potential of approximately 16,000 barrels of oil per day," it added.
According to the report, PCM worked closely with Perenco's technical department to achieve this result, as well as in close coordination with the Society of Hydrocarbons in Chad (SHT) and the Chadian minister of hydrocarbons.
Furthermore, the report said that PCM has also been involved in repairing a number of water wells near its operations.
In June 2022, Anglo-French oil and gas company Perenco acquired PCM from Glencore.
