ScottMadden Energy Industry Update: Utility-Government Cybersecurity Information Sharing

    November 16, 2015 - November 16, 2015 | Atlanta, GA

ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, recently released its latest edition of The Energy Industry Update. This semi-annual publication offers our inside view of major events and emerging trends in the energy industry, including recent cybersecurity legislation to improve utility-government information sharing.

This legislation is of particular industry interest because many utilities lack actionable cybersecurity intelligence. According to a recent survey, nearly half of responding critical infrastructure organizations believe the U.S. government should create better ways to share security information with the private sector.

Our most recent Energy Industry Update provides insights on these developments. What are the proposed legislative solutions? How do the solutions compare? What are the objections? And, what is the outlook?

“Industry cybersecurity information sharing is a valuable way to obtain actionable and timely threat intelligence, but liability concerns prevent this information from flowing freely between energy stakeholders. Recent legislation, including the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act just passed by the U.S. Senate, aims to eliminate these obstacles and is an important development for organizations responsible for protecting the grid,” said Jon Kerner, partner and information technology practice area leader at ScottMadden.
