CEIVA Energy Achieves Premier Level of Security Certification

    December 6, 2015 - Burbank, Calif. – December 7, 2015

CEIVA Energy, a smart grid technology company, today announced it has been awarded the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Management System certificate, achieving a premier level of security certification. After meeting earlier ISO 27001 certification standards, CEIVA Energy’s upgrade to this newest version underscores their deep commitment that all technologies, from its Entryway Demand Response Management System to its Homeview Home Energy Management System, meet the leading mark of excellence for security and privacy. In an increasingly connected energy world that faces growing threats from hackers, this leading certification enables CEIVA Energy’s utility customers to enjoy all the energy and cost-saving benefits of the smart grid while providing stringent protections to their customers.

Security is a rapidly growing priority for American utilities. In 2014, there were 79 attempts to hack the US electricity grid. Most recently, ISIS led cyberattacks to take down American power supplies. And in July of 2015, Lloyd’s of London released a report estimating that cyberattacks on US power plants could cause $1 trillion in economic damage.

“Today’s connected smart grid has given us countless benefits, but also can put some of our most sensitive information and operations at risk,” said CEIVA Energy CEO Dean Schiller. “CEIVA Energy continues to lead the way in giving utilities the confidence to deploy the latest connected technologies. By meeting the strictest security standards in the industry, we help utilities harness the full power of the smart grid to engage customers, reduce energy use and meet goals.”

The latest ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Management System certificate is an international mark of excellence for security and privacy. ISO is the world’s largest developer of voluntary international standards, which ensure that all documents, services and records are safe and reliable. In a rigorous process conducted by SRI Quality System Registrar, internationally accredited registrar for management systems, CEIVA Energy was awarded the certification based on their commitment to protecting the infrastructure, computer systems, information and people engaged in receiving, transferring, and storing sensitive information.

“To meet the new standard we are measuring the effectiveness of all the security controls we have in place and have added additional controls to ensure that the privacy of our clients’ data is protected,” said SRI Vice President, Joseph Falcsik.

The new standard will be applied to all existing deployments with CEIVA's utility customers across the country, including National Grid, Glendale Water & Power, Burbank Water & Power and Hawaii Energy.
