ScottMadden Releases Report Examining the Impact of Cybersecurity on Public Power

    January 4, 2017

ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, has released a report entitled “Enhancing Cybersecurity: A Briefing for Public Power.” This report examines the impact of cybersecurity on public power and the building blocks needed for an effective cybersecurity strategy.

Public power represents a significant part of the energy industry, “[powering] homes, businesses and streets in nearly 2,000 towns and cities, serving 48 million Americans,” as noted by the American Public Power Association. The energy sector accounted for 35% of cybersecurity incidents reported against critical infrastructure in the last three years. In response to concerns that not all cybersecurity investments are adequate or effective, ScottMadden has developed a methodology to help energy and technology leaders take a more pragmatic approach to cybersecurity.

“When we work with CEOs and boards on their top priorities, enhancing cybersecurity is always on the short list. I’m proud of the work ScottMadden has done to support the success of our clients in this critical area,” said Marc Miller, partner and public power and electric cooperatives practice leader at ScottMadden. “A strategic approach to cybersecurity is important to making smart cybersecurity investments that target your biggest risk areas and align your program with industry expectations,” added Jon Kerner, partner and IT practice leader at ScottMadden.

ScottMadden has helped many energy companies throughout North America improve the management and governance of their cybersecurity programs. By leveraging industry knowledge, our cybersecurity experts help our clients achieve their cybersecurity goals. Contact us to learn more.
