Glen Spry, CEO of SensorSuite, Shares Insights on Energy Efficient Grid Resource Buildings with the Energy Central Power Perspectives Podcast

    August 5, 2021 - Energy Central

The myriad of transformations the utility sector is undergoing these days makes today such an exciting time to be a part of the industry, and one of the key changes already proliferating across the grids is on how buildings interact with energy systems. The utility infrastructure was built with the assumption that buildings were simply the endpoint for energy to be sent, the final customer on a one-way exchange. Smart technologies and innovative practices have turned that understanding on its head, and Glen Spry-- CEO and President of SensorSuite, recently joined the Energy Central Power Perspectives Podcast to highlight the way in which Energy Efficient Grid Resource Buildings (EEGRs) are leading this evolution.

In this informative episode of the podcast, Glen highlights the opportunities and the causes of inertia behind EEGRs with podcast host Jason Price and producer Matt Chester. As Glen notes, EEGRs are eager to be part of the solution of climate change and bolster grid reliability as opposed to being a liability like the buildings sector of old:

We operate primarily in the multi-res building space. We do serve the commercial industrial space and the commercial building space as well. But the industry that we're in, specifically the multi-res building, I mean, we've got some really old analog donkeys in this fleet. I mean, these are buildings that were built in the 50s, 60s, 70s. There's not a digital bone in them. So there's a really large opportunity to turn what is an old analog disparate set of buildings, digitize them, connect them to a cloud and start to providing some intelligent overlays to them. We are now bringing on mass, a huge amount of load, a huge amount of flexible load back to those utility operators. And it's an asset that they never had access to. And to be honest, they probably even thought they would ever have access to.

This entry into the podcast, like all of the series episodes, can be found on all major podcast outlets, including iTunes and Spotify, or it can be listened to directly on the Energy Central platform. Give it a listen and share your reaction in the comments.
