    September 22, 2021 - Baltic News Service

VILNIUS, Sep 22, BNS – A new large shipment of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) has arrived in the Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda on Wednesday. It's the last large shipment in the ending gas year.

The Gaslog Westminster gas carrier docked at the Klaipeda-based FSRU Independence on Wednesday morning, according to, and

Klaipedos Nafta, the Klaipeda LNG terminal's operator, told BNS last week the carrier would bring around 138,000 cubic meters of LNG from the Sabine Pass terminal.

The Sabine Pass gas facility is operated by US company Cheniere Energy. The first LNG shipment from the US came from there in 2017.

With the latest shipment included, a total of 16 gas carriers from the United States have arrived in Klaipeda in the outgoing gas year that started in October, 2020.

Also, 51 small LNG shipments from the Russian port of Vysotsk, where Novatek has a production facility, have been delivered to the Lithuanian LNG terminal so far this gas year.

Two more small gas carriers are expected to arrive in Klaipeda by the end of September, according to the operator's schedule.

Earlier, ships used to bring the majority of LNG shipments from Norway but a fire broke out at the Equinor gasification facility in the fall of 2020., +370 5 205 85 19, Vilnius newsroom
