Naturgy activates a plan to mitigate the effects of the rise in electricity prices

    November 16, 2021 - CE Noticias Financieras

Faced with the escalation of electricity pool prices, and ahead of the measures of the Government and the rest of the sector, Naturgy has decided to take a step forward to put itself, once again, at the service of society with a comprehensive plan to mitigate the effects on consumers and the real economy of the current electricity price crisis. Specifically, the company has launched the "Commitment" initiative, a new solution at prices comparable to those prior to the current rise in the wholesale market. The company will offer all its infra-marginal electricity generation capacity available to its customers (residential, commercial and industrial) at an energy price of 65 E/MWh for three years. With this measure Naturgy will allow its customers to decouple their bills from the volatility of the pool price, demonstrating its commitment and social sensitivity in the long term.the president of Naturgy, Francisco Reynés, stressed that "once again, as we did during the toughest stage of the pandemic, we have launched a measure to respond to an exceptional situation. This initiative that we launched from Naturgy aims to reassure our customers, establishing an accessible and stable price, regardless of the volatility of the pool, and we hope it is well received by the industry, an essential sector for the recovery and economic development of our country".thus, the company wants to prevent the escalation of wholesale electricity prices (pool) is transferred to the small domestic consumer and the rest of its customers and offers to ensure the fixed cost of energy at a price well below the current price for the next three years, without additional conditions and without permanence. The initiative is aimed at all Naturgy electricity customers and also to customers of other marketers who want to change their conditions.the company thus advances to the exceptional situation of prices currently recorded in the wholesale market, which in recent weeks has reached record values of more than 200 euros on average - so closed in October, and in November has also been located on that border, taking into account that the term of energy accounts for just over 30% of the final bill. "The current situation requires commitment and leadership. Therefore, this package of measures is a demonstration of our social commitment because it is necessary to think above the conjunctures and circumstances and always focused on the customer. This package of measures is a demonstration of social commitment and business leadership," said Reynés, adding that "at the head of the companies there are people to develop solutions for our customers. In fact, Naturgy will assume in its margins the activation of this initiative in line with its commitment to society and ESG aspects, as it did during the worst moments of the Covid pandemic. All in all, Naturgy once again puts the customer at the center of its initiatives as a sign of its commitment and transparency with the current reality, the company has always been sensitive to the different casuistry and situations in which its customers may find themselves and that may compromise the payment of the supply. For this reason, for example, it facilitates the continuity of supply by offering different payment mechanisms, such as, for example, splitting the debt into several instalments, or not cutting off supply during holiday periods. This policy was intensified during the State of Alarm and the company also launched a series of measures aimed at supporting the needs of its customers, including SMEs and the self-employed, including offering them the possibility of deferring payment of their bills in instalments that best suit their possibilities, without any initial payment and without any interest. And in addition to what the Royal Decree established for supply cuts, it also did not claim the outstanding debt to its customers.Naturgy has always carried out a proactive policy to protect vulnerable customers. To do this, it maintains a close relationship with the Social Services of the City Councils, in order to be able to assist them in a personalized way, has strengthened coordination and communication with municipalities and administrations to improve the exchange of information and avoid cutting supply to possible situations of vulnerability of customers of the company.Naturgy's commitment to society is one of the pillars of the Sustainability Plan of the company 2021-2025. This sets six strategic drivers, 21 lines of action and up to 74 indicators that mark the objectives committed to sustainability and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The six drivers of the plan are: integrity and trust; the opportunity of environmental challenges; customer experience; commitment and talent; innovation and development of new businesses; and social responsibility. Likewise, since its formalization, Naturgy contributes directly or indirectly to the 17 SDGs, focusing on goals 7: Affordable and non-polluting energy; 11: sustainable cities and communities; and 13: climate action, due to the activity it carries out. It also remains firmly committed to renewable energies, the promotion of sustainable mobility and self-consumption and energy efficiency in buildings, the development of the circular economy through renewable gas generated with hydrogen or biomethane, and the protection of biodiversity.
