One Month On, Protest By NESCO Employees Continues Against TATA Power

    November 18, 2021 -

Bhubaneswar, Nov. 18 -- The protest by more than 700 employees of the erstwhile power distribution company, NESCO which has now been acquired by the TATA Power, continues unabated for over a month demanding regularisation of their jobs.

They have been sitting on dharna in front of the Head office at Balasore since one month.

The protesters alleged that TATA Power has been harassing the contractual employees by not regularising their jobs as per the agreement. Instead, it recruited new employees under its pay role before making jobs of the existing contractual employees as regular.

When asked by reporters, an official of the Tata Power at Balasore said, "We do not have any information about this labour union which seems to be a new one. We do not even know whether it is registered or not. We can entertain them only after getting all the information."

Nonetheless, the protesters submitted a memorandum in this connection to the CEO of TATA Power hoping to resolve this issues as soon as possible.

It is pertinent to mention here that Tata Power took over the management and operations of NESCO (North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha) upon completion of the sale process on April 1, 2021.

TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) is responsible for the distribution and retail supply of electricity in five circles of NESCO covering close to 2 million consumers with annual input energy of 5450 MUs in Balasore, Bhadrak, Baripada, Jajpur and Keonjhar districts.
