Floating Energy Allyance wins 1-GW wind project in Scotland

January 17 (Renewables Now) - The Floating Energy Allyance (FEA) will be developing a roughly 1-GW floating wind project off the northeast coast of Scotland following successful bidding in the ScotWind leasing round.

Earlier today, FEA won an option agreement from Crown Estate Scotland (CES) that reserves its rights to the NE8 area, located some 75 km to the northeast of Fraserburgh on the Aberdeenshire coast.

The consortium expects to sign an option lease deal by April 2022. It is getting ready to re-engage with key stakeholders, advance environmental surveys and progress further work on design, it said in a statement.

FEA is a partnership between German renewable energy company BayWa re, Belgian offshore wind developer Elicio and floating wind technology developer BW Ideol. In September 2021, the group announced plans to manufacture the floating concrete foundations for its project at a port site in Scotland.

“We will continue with our plans to create a manufacturing hub in the north of Scotland as illustrated by the strategic partnership agreement signed between BW Ideol and the Port of Ardersier in September 2021, and more generally to work to engage with the wider Scottish supply chain,” commented Paul de la Gueriviere, CEO of BW Ideol.
