Fred. Olsen, Vattenfall emerge with 798-MW award from ScotWind

    January 17, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

January 17 (Renewables Now) - Fred. Olsen Seawind AS and Swedish utility Vattenfall AB, through a 50/50 partnership, have won the rights to develop a wind farm of up to 798 MW off the east coast of Scotland as part of the ScotWind offshore leasing round.

The award allows the partnership to begin works necessary to develop a site that is about 67 km northeast of Aberdeen. The resulting wind farm is estimated to generate enough electricity to power more than 700,000 homes.

The partnership will now continue to progress environmental studies, launch a public consultation and undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

Earlier today, Crown Estate Scotland announced it has selected 17 out of 74 project applications to receive option agreements as part of the ScotWind offshore wind leasing round. The 17 winners represent nearly 25 GW of capacity.
