ScottishPower, Shell win 7 GW in ScotWind leasing round

    January 17, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

January 17 (Renewables Now) - Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) has confirmed that its UK subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables was awarded seabed rights for 7 GW of offshore wind projects in ScotWind Leasing round.

ScottishPower Renewables was the most successful applicant in Scotland’s offshore wind programme by the amount of capacity, which it intends to spread between two floating and one bottom-fixed project, according to the results released today by Crown Estate Scotland.

The floating projects -- the 3-GW MarramWind and the 2-GW CampionWind -- were developed in partnership with oil-and-gas major Royal Dutch Shell Plc (AMS:RDSA). The third project is the 2-GW MachairWind, which ScottishPower will promote solo.

These projects have boosted ScottishPower’s existing offshore wind pipeline from 3.1 GW to 10.1 GW, including the 5 GW of co-development with Shell, Iberdrola added.

ScottishPower and Shell are among 17 winners to secure option agreements in the ScotWind Leasing round. The selected projects will amount to roughly 24.8 GW of offshore wind capacity using floating and fixed foundation technologies.
