January 18 (Renewables Now) - Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) said on Tuesday that it has booked an order to supply turbines to Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) for a 94-MW wind farm project in Spain.
Iberdrola will use the turbines to build the Iglesias wind farm in the province of Burgos, northern Spain.
The contract includes a five-year service agreement and the supply of 16 turbines in total - 14 units of the SG 6.6-170 model, operating at 6.0 MW, and two SG 5.0-145 machines. The SG 6.6-170 turbines are from the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform and the Iglesias wind project will be the first in Spain to incorporate them, the manufacturer said.
So far, Siemens Gamesa has signed orders for about 3.6 GW of 5.X turbines worldwide.
The Iglesias wind farm is expected to be commissioned in early 2023.
