January 18 (Renewables Now) - Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Japan’s Marubeni Corp (TYO:8002) and the renewables unit of UK utility SSE Plc (LON:SSE) have won the right to develop an up to 2.6-GW floating wind farm in Scotland as part of the ScotWind offshore leasing round.
With the award, the tie-up will be allowed to develop a site of 858 sq km (331.3 sq miles) of seabed area off the east coast of Scotland into a floating wind complex, SSE said on Monday. The block is located within the E1 Zone in the Firth of Forth off the Angus Coast, in proximity to SSE Renewables’ 1.1-GW Seagreen offshore wind site.
SSE owns 40% of the development rights, while CIP and Marubeni each own 30%. They expect to sign a lease option agreement with Crown Estate Scotland this spring.
The proposed wind farm will be able to supply close to 4.3 million Scottish homes per year, once up and running. First power from the complex is planned to be produced by the end of 2030.
On Monday, Crown Estate Scotland announced it has selected 17 out of 74 project applications to receive option agreements as part of the ScotWind offshore wind leasing round. The 17 winners represent nearly 25 GW of capacity.
