January 18 (Renewables Now) - French telecommunications company Orange SA (EPA:ORA) said on Monday it signed an Energy-as-a-service (EaaS) contract with utility Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), hiring the compatriot to install 355 kWp of solar panels at its data centre in Grand Bassam, Cote d'Ivoire.
As part of the agreement, Engie will install the panels on rooftops and carports to help Orange’s main data centre in Africa generate some 527 MWh per year and benefit from self-consumption.
The solar power system will be capable of covering close to 60% of the facility’s daytime consumption, Orange said.
The commissioning is slated for the second half of 2022.
