Amper, through its Nervión Naval-Offshore division, has signed a collaboration agreement with Sener for the development and commercialization of floating offshore wind technology. This is a semi-submersible floating steel platform for offshore wind turbines with a capacity of more than 15 MW.
Hive wind, the name given to this prototype, is currently in the engineering development phase. In the coming weeks, it will be tested on a reduced scale in IHCantabria's experimental channel to evaluate its hydrodynamic behavior. "This alliance and our engineering division offer a key positioning for the development of serial floating structures and take advantage of all the know-how acquired by both companies during the last 6 years in the sector," said Roberto Bouzas, general manager of Nervión Navale-Offshore.
Several Amper business units will participate in the agreement to incorporate different assembly, technology and engineering capabilities to the project. Sener Renewable Investments will also have contributions from Sener Ingeniería, which develops innovative technology with R&D projects such as Seapower, as well as working with large clients in the sector, to whom it provides comprehensive engineering services for large offshore wind projects.
Since 2020, Sener Renewable Investments has been promoting floating offshore wind farms in Spain. "The development of Hive wind will offer a highly competitive and innovative product to boost offshore wind energy, the implementation of which is key to the fight against climate change," explained Miguel Domingo, CEO of Sener Renewable Investments.
