RWE wins CfD for 20 MW of solar in Polish tenders

    January 20, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

January 20 (Renewables Now) - German energy major RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has been granted a Contract for Difference (CfD) for more than 20 MW of solar projects in Polish tenders that took place in December.

The solar bundle includes nine photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of around 7 MW in West Pomerania and Greater Poland and two projects of a combined 14 MW in Lower Silesia, RWE said on Wednesday. The facilities are expected to go online in late 2023.

The CfD was awarded by the Polish Energy Regulatory Office.

The projects, which are small to medium in size, follow the Polish PV Sector Deal that RWE signed recently and pledged to participate in the development, construction and operation of PV projects across the country. The energy group is already working on 42 ground-mounted solar plants in Poland with a total capacity of 32 MW and will add 29 MW more to its construction pipeline in 2022.

The Essen-based group plans to continue the expansion of its solar and wind operations across the country. In December, it received an environmental permit for its first offshore wind farm in Polish waters and picked the port of Ustka as operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the 350-MW F.E.W. Baltic II project in the Baltic Sea.
