January 21 (Renewables Now) - Norwegian aluminium and energy company Norsk Hydro ASA (OSE:NHY), better known as Hydro, plans to build a solar park next to an aluminium extrusion plant it has in Poland in order to supply electricity directly to the site.
The company said on Monday it will install a solar power system near the facility in Trzcianka with the capacity to generate some 7.5 GWh of electricity per year. The total cost of the solar installation is estimated at EUR 5 million (USD 5.7m).
The output will be used to power a new extrusion press that is currently being built there. What is left of the generated electricity will cover parts of the remaining power consumption at the site.
The solar project will be completed in the third quarter of the year.
