Baku/24.01.22//Turan: Baku and Tehran agreed to speed up work on the construction of hydroelectric facilities and the Khudaferin and Gyz Galasy hydroelectric power stations on the Araz River.
The corresponding decision was made during the meeting of the members of the joint technical commission on the completion of the construction of the Khudaferin and Gyz Galasy hydroelectric facilities and HPPs, which took place on January 18-19 at the Giz Galasy hydroelectric complex.
The Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan spread a message about this last Saturday.
It should be noted that in July 2016, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved the Azerbaijani-Iranian agreement on the continuation of the construction of the Khudaferin and Giz Galasy hydroelectric complex and hydroelectric power station over the Araz River and the joint use of energy and water resources.
This document is a continuation of the previously ratified agreement, the implementation of which began in 1989, but was later suspended due to the occupation of part of the territory of Azerbaijan by Armenia.
It is planned to build hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 280 MW at these hydroelectric facilities, and the resulting electricity will be divided equally between the countries. -0-
