EDPR concludes repowering at 162-MW wind plant in Oklahoma

    January 25, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

January 25 (Renewables Now) - Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) said on Monday that EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) has completed the repowering on the Blue Canyon II wind farm, lifting the capacity to 162 MW from the previous 151 MW.

The existing wind park, located in Oklahoma, consisted of 84 turbines. Of these, 73 were upgraded to the V110 2 MW model by Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS).

Operational since 2003, Blue Canyon has been able to generate enough power to meet the consumption of over 94,000 homes. It is also part of the four-phase 423-MW Blue Canyon Wind Farm.

EDP expects the repowering, its first in the US, to extend Blue Canyon II's life by an additional 20 years to 30 years.

At present, EDPR NA operates a combined wind power capacity of 623 MW in Oklahoma, representing USD 1.2 billion (EUR 1bn) in capital investment in the state.
