January 26 (Renewables Now) - Italian utility A2A SpA (BIT:A2A) has struck binding deals to buy 352 MW of wind and solar power capacity in Spain and Italy from Paris-based investment house Ardian in deals with a combined equity value of EUR 452 million (USD 512m).
A2A said on Saturday it will pay EUR 265 million in equity to acquire stakes in 335 MW of wind projects in Italy. Under the arrangement, it will acquire unspecified interests of Ardian funds in the three companies holding the projects – 3New&Partners, Daunia Calvello and Daunia Serracapriola. This will give the Italian utility a pro-rata ownership of 195 MW of the total portfolio capacity.
Additionally, A2A and Ardian have sealed another binding contract that will see the Italian firm purchase 157 MW of wind and solar projects for an equity consideration of EUR 187 million. The portfolio consists of four projects, including 117 MW in Italy and 40 MW in Spain.
The wind farms covered by the two agreements are located in the Italian regions of Sardinia, Puglia, Campania and Spain’s Catalonia, while the solar farms are situated in Puglia and Lazio, Italy, and Andalusia, Spain.
“With these plants A2A consolidates its position as the second largest operator in renewables and its presence in Italy [..],” said Renato Mazzoncini, CEO of A2A.
The two deals are subject to customary closing conditions are expected to be finalised by the end of June.
