Port of Roenne picked for shipping Arcadis Ost 1 foundations

    January 26, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

January 26 (Renewables Now) - The Port of Roenne on the Danish island of Bornholm will be used when shipping the 27 wind turbines and monopiles for the 257-MW Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm in Germany.

The port said today it has been selected for the storage and shipping of foundations for the wind turbines and the transformer station. The award comes from DEME Offshore, the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contractor for the project’s foundations.

Work on the wind farm will start in a few weeks and is expected to be completed in a year. Arcadis Ost 1, developed by Belgium’s Parkwind NV, will be built in the Baltic Sea, northeast of the island of Ruegen, and will use Vestas' V174-9.5 MW turbines.

Mathieu Holvoet, project director of DEME Offshore for the Arcadis Ost project, said the port of Roenne has been picked for the shipment of the XXL monopiles due to the infrastructure designed to support heavy project loads and the port’s proximity to Arcadis Ost 1.

“I know that the new project will create work for the local companies on Bornholm as we saw with the project around Kriegers Flak last year,” remarked Jeppe la Cour, chief business officer for offshore at Port of Roenne A/S.
