Floating platform developer Gazelle partners up with mooring line supplier

January 26 (Renewables Now) - Dublin-based floating offshore wind platform developer Gazelle Wind Power Ltd on Tuesday said that advanced cords and ropes provider Bridon-Bekaert Ropes Group (BBRG) will supply mooring lines for Gazelle’s dynamic mooring system.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and will initially collaborate on Gazelle’s 2-MW pilot at the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN). They also plan to develop a plus-15-MW platform based on Gazelle’s floating wind technology.

Gazelle’s hybrid technology is a mixture of tension-leg and semi-submersible solutions. The company says it is light, durable and cost-effective and can be installed further out at sea.

According to Gazelle chief executive Pierpaolo Mazza, BBRG’s global experience and offshore rope technology was the last critical piece needed to deploy the company’s hybrid dynamic mooring system.

Gazelle recently signed a MoU with Maersk Supply Service to deliver the 2-MW PLOCAN pilot project by the second quarter of 2023.
