GlidePath breaks ground on 50-MW battery project in Texas

    January 27, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

January 27 (Renewables Now) - US energy storage developer GlidePath Power Solutions LLC has kicked off the construction of a 50-MW battery energy storage system in Texas, the portfolio company of Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners said on Tuesday.

The Chicago, Illinois-based company expects to have the Byrd Ranch facility in operation this summer. To be located in the city of Sweeny in Texas’ Brazoria County, the energy storage system will provide critical grid support to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) during periods of expected grid stress and volatility.

The project will enhance local grid resilience in the greater Houston region, GlidePath noted. It added that the battery installation will be equipped with the very latest technology and safety control systems. Power delivery will be supported by artificial intelligence-driven algorithms.

Apart from being its owner, GlidePath will take care of the battery’s operations after construction is over.

Currently, GlidePath has more than 70 standalone battery and solar-plus-storage projects in its 12-GWh development portfolio.
