    January 28, 2022 - TendersInfo - News

Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov presented Ukraine's achievements in the energy sector during the first day of Cluster 3 (Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Transport and Civil Protection) of the Subcommittee on Economic and Other Sectoral Cooperation .

During the meeting, Ukrainian and EU experts discussed in detail sectoral energy cooperation with the EU, including the implementation of the Memorandum on Strategic Energy Partnership and Annex XXVII "Energy Cooperation, including Nuclear Energy" of the Association Agreement.

Yaroslav Demchenkov noted that the creation of full-fledged markets for natural gas and electricity in accordance with EU energy legislation is our strategic goal. The Ukrainian energy sector should be based on the principles of energy security, improvement of energy efficiency and energy saving, diversification of energy sources, development of renewable energy.

In this context, the parties noted the importance of launching a joint group with the EU on the integration of gas and electricity markets, which will be an important platform for discussing not only integration but also energy security of the European continent.

"First of all, we are talking about the RESP (Regional Partnership for Energy Security) concept proposed by Ukraine. The concept includes the creation of a strategic gas reserve for Central and Eastern Europe and the development of gas supply routes for alternative suppliers, "said Yaroslav Demchenkov.

During the event, EU representatives noted the important achievements of the Ukrainian side in reforming the natural gas market, namely the creation of a regulatory framework for achieving market integration. At the same time, the representatives of the European Commission stressed the importance of ensuring the functioning of a full-fledged electricity market.

The parties also discussed cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and the plans of the Government of Ukraine for the fair transformation of coal regions.
