May 5 (Renewables Now) - Spain generated 50.1% of its electricity from renewable sources in April, Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE) said in its estimates report on Wednesday.
The renewables share is Spain’s total power production in March was 45.4%.
The larger proportion of renewables in Spain’s power mix came as the national demand for electricity fell by 2% year-on-year to an estimated 19,539 GWh in April. Wind farms remained the country's top power producer, accounting for 25.8% of the total monthly output.

Demand for power by Spain’s mainland dropped by 2.8% on the year to an estimated 18,389 GWh. On the Balearic Islands, demand was estimated at 435,740 MWh, up by 15% compared to April 2021. The Canary Islands archipelago also saw a rise in demand to some 683,594 MWh, up 11% in annual terms.
