May 5 (Renewables Now) - Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said today that it has booked an order to supply and install 81 MW of turbines for a wind farm expansion project in Argentina.
The customer is Argentine aluminium smelter Aluar Aluminio Argentino SAIC (BCBA:ALUA), which recently announced it would invest USD 130 million (EUR 123.1m) to expand its existing 165-MW wind farm in Chubut province.
The Danish turbine maker is to supply 18 pieces of its V150-4.5 MW machines for the new project, dubbed Llano IV. A 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement is included in the order.
Vestas plans to deliver the turbines in the fourth quarter of 2022, and commission the wind farm in the third quarter of 2023, it said.
Once in operation, the wind farm will generate electricity for Aluar’s smelting plant in Puerto Madryn.
