Green H2 producer Atome arranges 60-MW hydro off-take in Paraguay

    May 5, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

May 5 (Renewables Now) - UK green hydrogen and ammonia producer Atome Energy (LON:ATOM) has sealed a 60-MW hydropower off-take deal to secure electricity for “near-term” production in Paraguay.

The British firm said on Wednesday it will receive supplies under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Ande – the national electricity supply and distribution company of Paraguay. The arrangement calls for the delivery of available baseload electricity from existing HPPs at “the lowest industrial standard user tariff” currently available.

The contracted power volume will support a large-scale project of Atome to produce up to 55,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually in Villeta. The company said it will now proceed with the project’s design and procurement, expecting to take a final investment decision in the second half of 2022.

The proposed complex is planned to become operational within three years, with its output to be available to domestic and export markets.

The power off-take deal is the largest one signed between Ande and an industrial user, Atome noted.
