Infinergy, Boralex win approval for 21-MW wind extension scheme in Scotland

    May 10, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

May 10 (Renewables Now) - Scottish ministers have approved the Limekiln Extension wind power project, which consists of five turbines totalling 21 MW of capacity, UK renewables developer Infinergy and Canada’s Boralex Inc (TSE:BLX) said on Tuesday.

A decision is now awaited on the Limekiln wind farm Section 36C variation application, which would reduce the number of turbines in that project but increase their capacity in line with the turbines of the Limekiln Extension project. As previously announced the Limekiln wind farm proposal’s turbine count was reduced from 21 to 19.

Located to the east of Limekiln Estate in the extreme north of Scotland, the five-turbine extension project would be able to generate enough power to meet the annual needs of 18,494 homes, while both projects could supply almost 50,000 homes.

Limekiln Extension will also feature battery storage. It is expected to take around 18 months to build and commission the scheme and carry out site restoration activities.

Infinergy and Boralex announced a 50:50 joint venture in 2017 to develop a 325-MW pipeline of onshore wind projects, mainly in Scotland and including the Limekiln wind farm projects.
