May 10 (Renewables Now) - French power producer EDF Renewables and its Spanish partner Ibereolica Renovables announced on Monday that the 60-MW expansion of their Cabo Leones I wind farm in Chile is starting commercial operation.
The whole wind farm, located in the Atacama region, now boasts 175.5 MW of installed capacity. To boost its size, EDF Renewables and Ibereolica Renovables added 12 new Siemens Gamesa SG-145 5-MW turbines to the existing 55 turbine wind farm.
With the expansion online, Cabo Leones I will now be able to inject over 500 GWh of power per year into the grid, the partners said.
The original Cabo Leones I has been in operation since 2017.
