UzAssystem to support renewables development in Kyrgyzstan

May 11 (Renewables Now) - UzAssystem, a joint venture between Uzbekistan’s energy ministry and engineering company Assystem, plans to support the development of renewable energy, smart grid and energy storage projects in Kyrgyzstan.

The engineering and digital services firm has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Energy Holding Company of Kyrgyzstan that outlines their intention to implement joint energy projects in the Kyrgyz Republic.

More specifically, the two parties will cooperate in the fields of project management, engineering design and consultancy for wind, solar, hydropower and other renewable energy projects, as well as in the development of a digital twin and the modelling of the country's grid. In addition, they will seek to develop energy storage systems and a smart grid, and to modernise electrotechnical norms and standards.

Kyrgyzstan targets a 44% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Presently, the country generates about 92% of its electricity from hydropower plants.
