Bord Gais agrees power offtake from 40 MW of Amarenco solar projects

    May 13, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

May 13 (Renewables Now) - Irish utility Bord Gais Energy has clinched a deal to manage and off-take the output of 40 MW of solar parks proposed to be built by independent power producer Amarenco Group in Ireland.

The long-term contract will support the development of eight photovoltaic (PV) projects, each with a capacity of up to 5 MW, Bord Gais said on Thursday.

All plants are set to be installed in County Cork, the southernmost county of Ireland, and will together generate enough electricity to cover the consumption of around 8,000 homes annually.

Bord Gais noted it will be the only energy provider partnering with Amarenco in the projects.

Currently, the Irish utility has 220 MW of wind power generation capacity in its renewable portfolio and also has agreements for power off-take from 14 solar farms of more than 176 MW in total. When Amarenco’s solar parks go online, the company estimates it will be able to supply electricity to more than 164,000 homes.

Bord Gais aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045.
