Bourbon contracted to install 30-MW EolMed floating pilot in France

    May 17, 2022 - SeeNews Renewables

May 17 (Renewables Now) - Bourbon Subsea Services had been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for the 30-MW EolMed floating wind pilot project in the French Mediterranean Sea, French offshore marine services group Bourbon said on Tuesday.

The company has been selected by the EolMed partners -- French floating wind technology developer BW Ideol (OSE:BWIDL), domestic renewable power producer Qair and energy group TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE). Earlier in May, the partnership made the final investment decision (FID) for the project and announced the start of construction.

The EolMed offshore wind farm is planned to be installed 18 km off Gruissan, a town on the western part of the French south coast in Occitania region. It will use three 10-MW turbines mounted on steel floats made by local firms Matiere and Ponticelli. Completion is expected in mid-2024.

Bourbon said it will be responsible for the complete offshore installation, including detailed design, procurement and fabrication of the floating electrical hub, inter array cables, anchoring and mooring systems. It will use its teams based in Marseilles, as well as a network of local partners.
