Uzbekistan looking to introduce solar installations for decentralized energy and heat supply

Uzbekistan is expected active introduction of solar installations for decentralized energy and heat supply, the spokeswoman of the Uzbek Ministry of Energy Elmira Bekmurodova told Trend.

"These installations will be used, in particular, as a source of electricity and heat for government bodies, social facilities and households," Bekmurodova said.

According to her, a targeted program is at the development stage, which provides for the installation of solar power plants with an installed capacity of 2 kW in 150,000 private households in Uzbekistan in the period 2021-2023.

According to the spokeswoman, in general, in 2022, a lot of work in the field of renewable energy sources (RES) will be done in the country.

"In particular, it is planned to sign project agreements for the construction of five solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 900 MW in Bukhara, Namangan, Khorezm, Kashkadarya and Fergana regions, as well as wind power plants with a total installed capacity of 1,500 MW in the Republic of Karakalpakstan," Bekmurodova said.

According to her, in 2023, it is planned to commission four solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 1,097 MW in Samarkand, Jizzakh, Navoi and Surkhandarya regions and one wind power plant with an installed capacity of 100 MW in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

Bekmurodova noted that following the results of the work done in the field of renewable energy, the president of Uzbekistan set new goals, including to bring the share of renewable energy in total electricity generation to 25 percent by 2026.
