Expansion of renewables will bring electricity prices down i

    May 19, 2022 - APA EconomicNews Service

The expansion of renewable energies must also be accelerated in Austria in order to achieve the climate targets. Electricity prices could also be brought down again in the longer term, said Verbund boss Michael Strugl on Thursday in an online discussion. The areas required for the construction of the plants now play a central role. The determination of suitability zones could contribute to faster procedures.

Strugl assumes that there is a common denominator in Austria, that the expansion of renewables must be promoted in Austria - in order to be less dependent on fossil imports. Nobody wants electricity prices like they are now, not even the energy companies, said Strugl, referring to the social and economic effects.
