BlueFloat, Falck unveil 975-MW floating wind project off Sardinia

May 20, 2022 - SeeNews Power Market Review

May 20 (Renewables Now) - Madrid-based offshore wind outfit BlueFloat Energy and Italy’s Falck Renewables SpA (BIT:FKR) today presented their plan for a 975-MW floating wind farm project located off the north-eastern cost of Sardinia.

In a joint statement, the companies said that their Tibula Energia wind farm would feature 62 turbines floating some 25 to 40 kilometres from the coast to make them barely visible to people on the shore. They expect the scheme to generate over 3.4 TWh of power per year.

Falck and BlueFloat have been carrying out research into local sea and wind conditions, environmental impact and infrastructure over the past 12 months, and set up community engagement meetings. They said they had already filed for a maritime concession on May 6, and plan to start the authorisation process with the Italian ministry for ecological transition in the next few weeks.

Offshore wind partners since 2021, Falck Renewables and BlueFloat have been developing several floating projects around Italy’s coast and progressed their alliance to three successful bids in the ScotWind offshore leasing round earlier this spring.
