REG Starts Construction Of 43.5MW Hydroelectric Power Plant In Rwanda

News: Rwanda Energy Group (REG) has started the construction of a 43.5MW Nyabarongo II hydroelectric power plant on the Nyabarongo River in Rwanda. The facility forms the first phase of the Nyabarongo II Multipurpose Development Scheme. In 2020, the Rwandan government secured a USD214mn concessional loan from China Exim Bank to fund the power station and associated transmission infrastructure. Sinohydro is responsible for implementing the project. Construction is expected to be completed in 56 months (Renewables Now).
