    Spain generates 49.8% of its power from renewables in May

      June 2 (Renewables Now) - Renewables accounted for 49.8% of Spain’s total power production in May, after hitting 50.1% a month earlier, according to the latest preliminary figures released by Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE).

      For the third month in a row, wind farms were Spain’s top electricity producers, generating 4,641 GWh and holding a 21% share of the nation’s power mix in May, REE said.

      On the national level, Spain’s demand for electricity in May fell by 0.4% year-on-year to an estimated 20,274 GWh. On the mainland, demand was estimated at 19,059 GWh, lower by 1.2% compared to May 2021.

      On the Balearic Islands, demand for power rose by 23.8% year-on-year to 470,917 MWh. The Canary Islands system registered demand for 712,065 MWh, up by 11.6%.
