    Government presented national hydrogen strategy

    June 2, 2022 - APA EconomicNews Service

Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology Leonore Gewessler (Greens) and Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs Martin Kocher (ÖVP) presented the government's hydrogen strategy on Thursday. The strategy provides for over EUR 0.5 billion (USD 0.54 billion) in subsidies by 2030 and it is based on both domestic production and imports. By 2030, 80 percent of the hydrogen derived from fossil fuels should be replaced by green hydrogen.

Hydrogen is an important part of the energy transition away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy sources. "We also have no alternative," Gewessler said at the press conference, referring to the climate crisis and Austria's dependence on Russia. (EUR 1 = USD 1.076)
