MMEX Resources announced investments of US$500mil to set up a green hydrogen plant coupled with a wind power generating utility at Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego. The capacity of these projects is put at 55 m tons per day of green hydrogen and 160 Mw of power. The idea is to develop a plan for conversion of ammonia or methanol with capacity for 300 m tons per day earmarked for exports. From the total investments 60% go to the wind farm and 40% for the electrolysis plant.
Another major green hydrogen project underway, coupled with a wind farm, is from Fortescue Future Industries, designing US$8,400mil at Rio Negro province. The project is in pre-feasibility studies and the go ahead is pending the government detailing of an umbrella Green Hydrogen bill.
