JAPAN - Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation ('Toshiba ESS') today announced that it and its U.S. affiliate, Toshiba America Energy Systems Company ('TAES' and together 'Toshiba'), have reached an agreement with Bechtel Power Corporation ('Bechtel'), an American engineering and construction company, to collaborate on the delivery of equipment for Poland's first nuclear power plant.
Poland is currently highly dependent on coal-fired power generation for power sources, and due to growing environmental awareness, plans to build new nuclear power plants are underway. Bechtel is working with Westinghouse Electric Company ('Westinghouse'), an American nuclear engineering company, to develop multiple Westinghouse AP1000 pressurized water reactors in Poland. Bechtel has agreed with Toshiba ESS and TAES to collaborate on the supply of steam turbines and generators for the project. In the future, the three companies will conduct concrete studies on the supply of equipment.
Toshiba promotes efforts in a wide range of business domains, including construction / maintenance / support for the restart, decommissioning and dismantlement of nuclear power plants, fuel cycle, and future energy source development, such as next generation reactors and fast reactors. The company recently completed the supply of steam turbines and generators to the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates. Toshiba ESS will continue to supply main equipment for international nuclear power plants.
Shinya Fujitsuka, Director and Senior Vice President at Toshiba ESS, said, 'Toshiba ESS is highly honored to announce the collaboration with Bechtel on the Delivery of Equipment for Poland's First Nuclear Power Plant. We contribute to energy sustainability, security, and protection of the global environment with our nuclear business.'
