Malaysia's IPI climbs 4.6 pct in April

    June 10, 2022 - Xinhua News Agency

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Malaysia increased 4.6 percent in April from a year ago, steered by the manufacturing and electricity sector, official data showed Friday.

The expansion of the IPI was contributed by the manufacturing and electricity sectors, which increased 6.2 percent and 1.5 percent respectively, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the mining sector shrank 0.1 percent from a year earlier.

On a month-on-month basis, the IPI deteriorated by 4.8 percent as a result of the fall in all components of indices.

For the period of January to April, the IPI recorded an expansion of 4.5 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.

The rise was supported by the manufacturing index, which rose 6.3 percent, and electricity index that grew 3.1 percent.

Meanwhile, the mining index for the period shrank 1.4 percent. Enditem
