Zaporizhzhya region preparing to begin power supply to Crimea

SIMFEROPOL. June 15 (Interfax) - Power grid infrastructure is being repaired in the Russia-held part of the Zaporizhzhya region to begin power supply to Crimea, head of the interim administration of the Zaporizhzhya region Yevgeny Balitsky said.

"The nuclear power plant, which is currently under our control, [...] is supplying electricity in a rather effective manner, so we are planning to begin power supply to Crimea. Restorations are in progress," Balitsky said on the Soloviev.Live program.

He published a recording of the interview on Telegram.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an executive order on February 21 to recognize independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics. He announced the beginning of a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. At this point, the Russian forces are fully in control of the Kherson region and are partially controlling the Zaporizhzhya region.

Power supply to Crimea from Ukraine stopped at the end of 2015, as a transmission line tower was blown up.
